Client Story - Ruth
A Bristol client's chemotherapy journey with Lucinda Ellery
After going through chemotherapy for breast cancer my hair never really recovered. It was very thin and fine and my scalp was visible. This brought my confidence to a very low point. I was also in a job that I hated but my lack of confidence was preventing me from moving on.
This all changed with my first hair system from Lucinda Ellery. I felt my confidence return and just simply felt like me again. I changed my job and never looked back.
I have had a number of subsequent systems and have been so well looked after by the team at the Bristol studio. I really can't speak too highly of the care I have experienced. It's only hair you might say, not anything life threatening, but hair loss had a huge negative effect on my life and I'm grateful to have found Lucinda Ellery.
Lucinda Ellery Comments
Thank you, Ruth. That's a generous thing to share.
Most of the support you're offered during chemotherapy is about the months when the hair goes. Far less is said about what happens when it comes back thinner than it was and stays that way. The parting stays open, your scalp shows in photographs, and because treatment finished a year ago, everyone assumes it isn't a problem any more.
Ruth said it better than we could. "It's only hair you might say, not anything life threatening, but hair loss had a huge negative effect on my life." It was holding her back at work long after the cancer had gone.
If you're six months or two years on and your regrowth has stalled, speak to your GP or your oncology team first. We manage and disguise hair loss rather than treat it, and we work alongside your medical team, never in place of it.
But you don't have to simply wait it out, and you aren't limited to a wig. A wig will disguise thinning hair, but it's often hot and itchy, it can't be worn all the time, and the worry of it coming loose can cause more anxiety than the hair loss did. The Intralace is integrated into your own hair and worn 24/7. You wash it normally, you sleep in it, and can exercise and even swim in it, and your own hair grows safely underneath it.
Ruth has been looked after by our Bristol team through every system she's had. Come and see us in Clifton, or speak to us on a video call first.
