A sympathetic and effective approach to Trichotillomania

Anyone who has experienced the uncontrollable compulsion to pull out their hair know that it can be dreadfully isolating. It can be hard to admit to yourself that you do it, let alone admit it to someone else - even (sometimes especially) your own family. Doctors don't always understand it, hairdressers don't know how to help to disguise it, and it's difficult to even find counselling or to talk to them about it when you do. It's an immensely frustrating condition and not knowing what causes it or why you can't stop just makes it worse.

You'll find a sympathetic ear at our Southampton hair loss salon. We've seen many women and girls with Trich and all our staff understand how difficut it is to cope with, to handle the feelings of shame that often go with it, and how it can take over your life. We'll offer both emotional and practical support as well as treatments, and no-one here will ever judge you for the occasional setbacks that are so common amongst Trich sufferers.

The type of transformations we can make to women's hair

Preventing you from pulling

We've been helping girls and women with Trich for many yearand have offered many different options over that time, but the most effective treatment has been the same Intralace System which is so effective for disguising many other forms of hair loss. Naturally it disguises the patches that you will probably have spent countless hours covering up, so that is one less thing to worry about. But the unique advantage of the Intralace for helping you stop pulling is that the mesh that it's based on prevents you from getting at the roots of your hair - if you can't get to the hairs then you can't pull them. This breaks the cycle and gives you a "breathing space" - a period of time where you can start to unlearn the habit and learn how to be aware when you're unconsciously pulling.

Your hair will grow unhindered beneath the Intralace, so unless you've been pulling for a long time and the damage has become permanent, then after a few months when the system is removed for the first time you should find that your hair has begun to return to normal. Our Southampton experts will then advise you on whether the system should be put back on for a further period of time or if a lighter system or light extensions should be the next step.

Nothing is ever certain with Trichotillomania, and occasionally a client will need to return to us for renewed help if a difficult time in their life causes a recurrance of the urges. Fortunately it usually works just as well the second time around, and we've had a great many success stories - women who have turned their lives around and gone on to great achievements in business or academic life; helped by the renewed confidence that comes from looking good again and feeling back in control.
