NHS Funding

NHS funding has proved to be exceptionally challenging to obtain, particularly over the recent months where budgets are being cut. Unfortunately obtaining funding is not guaranteed. Your local Primary Care Trust will make a decision based on whether they perceive your hair loss to be an ‘exceptional’ case or not. We have found that clients who have obtained support from medical professionals i.e. Psychologists, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Consultants, GP’s, Dermatologist’s etc have stood a better chance with their application being supported and funded.

This does not guarantee NHS funding but strengthens and facilitates the decision making process.

A client based in Hammersmith with Trichotillomania has recently been funded for a period of two years. The client’s application was granted and motivated by the fact that she is seeing a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. The Cognitive Behavioural Therapist was in turn able to provide a medical report to her GP to support her application for funding. In addition a client based in Buckinghamshire has received funding for a period of five years.

Lucinda Ellery Consultancy is able to provide you with an NHS information pack after an initial consultation. We would encourage all clients wishing to apply for funding to obtain letters of support from medical professionals. If you wish to discuss your application or want to apply for funding for the first time, please do not hesitate to contact Kashmira Champaneri (Senior Office Administrator) on 0844 567 8899 ext 1004 or Rosemary Hocknell (Operations Manager) on ext 1013.

Trichotillomania (TTM) Documentary On Channel 4

Over the last six months, Minnow Films has been producing a documentary for Channel 4 about Trichotillomania. The film, directed by Ruth Kelly, features three women with TTM, two of whom are receiving treatment at Lucinda Ellery Consultancy. Fed up with their hair loss and with being misunderstood, these strong, brave and beautiful women allow cameras to follow them on their quest to stop pulling their hair out.

The documentary is a sensitive and thoughtful portrayal of the condition, the impact it has on people's lives and the difficulties faced in overcoming it. The film has now been completed and is scheduled for broadcast on Channel 4 on Friday 16th July 2010 at 7.30pm as part of the First Cut strand which showcases bold, bright and original documentaries by up-and-coming film-makers.

If you would like additional support to manage your TTM effectively outside of Lucinda Ellery Consultancy, please contact Rosemary Hocknell on 0208 741 8224 on ext 1013. We have collated a database over the last several months of CBT therapists who work directly with patients who have TTM and we may be able to refer you to a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist within your county.

Intralace System™ Black and Dark Brown Mesh now Available

We now have stock of Black and Dark Brown mesh for use with our Intralace System™. If you are due to have a new Intralace System™ and would like to discuss using the Black or Dark Brown mesh, please contact one of the Studio Managers and they will advise if this new option will be suitable for you.

You may be comfortable with your current style, but if you are due to renew your Intralace System™ you might want to explore having a change of style. Please speak to us about the suitability of having a Natural Hair Line Parting or Natural Hair Line Sides.

Many of our clients now confidently use this style of parting and side panels and are enjoying the benefits of having more styling options and exposing the appearance of a natural hair line.

Your Favourite Hair Products

We would love to get your feedback on the various products you use with your Intralace System™. We recently came across an excellent conditioner called ‘Yes to Carrots Scalp Moisturising Mud Mask’. This is an intensive conditioner that can be left in your hair for up to fifteen minutes. There are so many products on the market and it is only natural for us all to have our favourites, but now and again we do come across products that tend to work really well with the Intralace System™.

We would be very interested to hear about your favourite products. We have a suggestion box at reception. Please write down the names of your favourite products (shampoo, conditioner or styling product) and pop it in the box.
