Gail Porter reveals blonde hair on GMTV
Gail Porter recently appeared on GMTV sporting a full head of blonde hair. Porter suffered five years of complete baldness as a result of alopecia areata. However, her hair has been regrowing for a while now and she appears to have recovered.
Alopecia areata attacks the hair follicles, preventing hair growth, but the follicles themselves remain, meaning recovery is possible. By March of this year, Porter had about three-quarters of her hair, but the growth was still rather patchy. However, it now seems to be back to its best.
Porter first suffered alopecia areata in 2005, but despite losing all of her hair, including her eyelashes, she opted not to wear a wig or anything similar in a bid to raise awareness about the condition.
Porter’s hair initially started to grow back as long ago as 2006, but progress is unpredictable with alopecia areata with periods of growth followed by relapses.
Porter believes the condition may have been triggered by the breakdown of her marriage at a time when she also experienced post-natal depression.
